Tumblr Customize Appearance - WTF
A few weeks ago I wrote a post protesting Tumblr’s sudden removal of importing RSS feeds in to a Tumblr site. Now, it appears that the folks over there feel they have improved the customize appearance page too. Except, IT DOES NOT WORK. I have tried navigating the section using Safari and Chrome and both fail to do anything useful. Further, I do not see any way to revert back to the old method of customizing the appearance of my tumblr site. I must say Tumblr, you are spending a lot of time messing up things that work fine instead of focusing your efforts on things that do not work so well. Heck, how about taking all this new found design and coding time and create some new features instead of fucking up the existing ones that “used” to work. I am seriously starting to get frustrated.
Sincerely,
A long time user…
Tumblr - Please say it isn't so
I have been on the Tumblr bandwagon pretty much from day 1. I have approved of their concept and cheered at how easy it was to blog and share information. Further, I felt it was the best solution to consolidating all of my social media creations in to a central site. A site that I would anchor my domain with. But, now it seems that Tumblr, in their quest to stop downtime of their website due to bandwidth issues, has stopped allowing users from importing RSS feeds from other services in to their site. This is extremely inconvenient and very unfortunate. Tumblr, if you read this, you had a winning solution, spend money on infrastructure, don’t remove code to make your services fit within your infrastructure.
Coming shortly. Tumblr + Twitter + Instagram all in this stream. Google+ I am sorry, gotta keep you on the bench. Delicious, we need to talk, it’s been a long time.

I love it when I come across great blogs and websites unexpectedly. I came across Michael’s blog while looking at commentary on how people use their MacBook Air’s. Turns out I ended up finding a very well crafted blog about life and leadership. Trust me, once you read a few of his high quality articles, you will be just as impressed as I am. I also give him extra credit for understanding good blog design and knowing how blogs work behind the scenes.

Apple Store, Reston, VA - The Apple Genius was awesome in handling my MacBook Pro’s bad battery. They pulled one right off the shelf and put it in my Mac and sent me on my way. Total time start to finish: 10 min. This is why I buy Apple!
A few quirks with the MacBook Air
Before I begin my post about some of the issues I am experiencing with my new 13” 2011 MacBook Air, I want to say that my experience with this laptop has been nothing less than delightful. I knew how good this laptop was when I decided to purchase it, but my first hand experiences have far exceeded my expectations of how good it is. But, and this is a bit of an annoying but, there are a few things that I can not let go without calling them out.
1. The glass multitouch trackpad, albeit flawless, seems to be unbalanced when pressing towards the top and the bottom. This very well may be by design but it drives someone like me crazy. Also, when doing gentle touches for clicking, I hear a small rattle. Now when I say small, i mean its really quiet. I admit that I am a bit OCD when it comes to stressing over details such as this.
2. The keyboard has something wrong and I think its a design flaw on Apple’s part, not just something wrong with my particular laptop. I say this because EVERY key on my laptop works fine EXCEPT for the spacebar. As I am typing this, every time I press the spacebar I get this loud, sponge like sound that does not feel anywhere near as crisp as the other keys. It quite literally sounds like crumpled paper every time I press it. I admit, this really has be worked up. I have been trying to tell myself, it’s ok, but it is not. A $1500 laptop should not have keyboard issues, period. I will withhold judgement on this issue until after I visit the Apple store and see how the Genius treats me.
3. The final thing that bugs the hell out of me is the lack of a HD webcam. Even in good lighting situations, the quality of picture that the webcam produces is horrible. I have had the need to use it to create profile pictures for Lion and Google+ and I am completely disappointed. I can get better shots from my iPhone all day long compared to this. But, even as underwhelming as it is, I knew what I was getting when I bought it so I will suck it up and live with it.
Well that’s it. I will probably write about my Apple store experience with the keyboard sometime in the future.
Google screwed my Google Accounts?
I am posting this link as both a warning AND a solution to Google’s idiotic conflict/migration to their new Google account system.
It is indeed true that Google+ does not work with Google Apps.
Bought a new MacBook Air
I have been holding out all year to see how the MacBook Air update panned out. When Apple released the MacBook Pro update that included Thunderbolt and updated processors that made them extremely fast, I was very tempted. Especially since just about everyone in my circle of friends pulled the trigger on them. But, I held out.
So, last week when Apple released the updated MacBook Air, I eagerly reviewed the new specs to see if waiting was the right thing to do. Much to my satisfaction, Apple did enough updating to make the new MacBook Air a very formidble daily use laptop.
I spent the following days after the release reading reviews, browsing discussion forums, and watching youtube videos related to the new laptops. Through each experience, the overwhelmingly positive response validated my decision to wait for this update.
I chose to go with a 13” Core i5 system with 256GB SSD. I initially wanted to Core i7 but after seeing benchmark comparisons and worries about the added heat and battery drain, I felt the Core i5 was the better fit for how I plan on using the laptop. I thought about the added cost savings by going to the 128GB SSD but in the end, I think 256GB is a wise choice, especially in this day and age of large media.
Finally, all the waiting and research culminated in my purchase at Best Buy. The local Apple Store was already sold out (no $100 app store credit). While searching for other local options, I saw that BestBuy.com provided the just released MacBook Air on sale for $100 off. When I got to Best Buy they had one left and it rung up at $1499, which is cheaper than any other Apple retailer including the Apple Store education discount. Plus, i get additional money later through my reward zone points earned. Not a bad deal and adequately takes the spot of the missing $100 app store gift card.
More to come as I start to use it more….
